five or six hours of sailing a day are sufficient to cruise forty kilometers (you must count 10 to 15 minutes to go through a lock).

Sailing along the Canal de
Briare,
you will pass Rogny, well-known
for its seven locks, then Châtillon-Coligny
followed by Montargis also called "Venice of Gâtinais"
for its network of canals and
rivers.
Taste the chocolates and admire the chorus of the
St-Madeleine church. Further Northwards you sail on the Canal du Loing. While passing Nemours and the small picturesque village Moret-sur-Loing, you will arrive in Saint-Mammès, the "crossroad" of the river Seine, the Canal du Loing and the river Yonne. After Saint-Mammès the river Seine and the river Yonne will lead you to the Canal du Nivernais. |

After
one day sailing on the Lateral Canal
to the Loire, do not
forget to stop in Sancerrois. Take a stroll in the small streets of Sancerre and taste its goat cheese accompanied by a glass of famous wine. Further Southwards, you reach Charité-sur-Loire, a small fortified town, interesting for its remains. A lot of other curiosities, such as the marine harbor of Marseilles-les-Aubigny and the charming medieval village Apremont-sur-Allier are the new stops. If you take the junction you can sail right to the harbor, the heart of Nevers. You then are only at two steps of the cathedral, the ducal palace and the archaeological museum. After Nevers the canal leads you to Decize, roman city built on an island of the Loire. Follows Bourbon-Lancy, thermal city and Digoin, a village of art and gastronomy. It is in Decize that you can bifurcate via the Canal du Nivernais. Its wild aspect offers exceptional emotions on your cruise explorations. |
